A Breath of Fresh Air

Well, there's nothing like a brisk fall day to lift your spirits! We had been seeing in the weather forecasts that yesterday and today might bring some rain showers and considerably cooler temps, but we weren't convinced it would really happen.

Surprise, surprise . . . last night, about the time it got dark, it started thundering and lightning. Then the wind started howling, and before we knew it, it was raining buckets and buckets!!! After having the same weather since April and May, this was really refreshing and rather exciting. Our power went out, and it was great just sitting in our candle lit living room, listening to the storm. And what an excellent excuse it made for going to bed an hour early!

Then we woke up this morning to a blue fall sky with a brisk, cool breeze, with those big puffy clouds rolling away. I'm telling you, it was a lift to our spirits! We opened our windows, put on our sweatshirts, and even took a little nap (after we worked on homework for about 2 hours). It made us think of our college days . . . walking across campus on a cool fall day, sitting outside on the grass with a good book or chatting with friends. And, of course, who can forget fall football games?! With a cup of hot chocolate from the concession stand. Actually, I had one of those this morning, too!! However, what I really wanted was one of those Starbucks caramel apple ciders, but those haven't made their debut over here yet!

Fall has always been my favorite season, and this year it has proven to me again why that is! The clear, blue sky (after seeing it hazy and dirty all summer and before all the coal smoke starts polluting it for the winter), the cool, not-humid breeze (after stifling hot, humid days and before the freezing cold days of winter), and that spring in my step that comes with comfortably wearing a pair of jeans and tennis shoes.

For those of you in places where fall brings such distinct changes in the air, by all means, don't forget to take a breath of fresh air and check out that bright blue sky!!!
